Alabama Artificial Limb and Orthopedic Service, Inc. selected as iWalk Certified Bionics Center
AALOS is pleased to announce that we are one of the nation's first prosthetics provider to commercially offer the PowerFoot BiOM, the first robotic lower leg system to normalize metabolic efficiency and increase self- selected walking speed for amputees. The BiOM features advanced bionics technology developed by Dr. Hugh Herr, an MIT-based, world renowned innovator and researcher in the fields of biomechanics, biological motion control and augmentation technologies. The BiOM is the world's first bionic lower leg system that utilizes robotics to replicate muscles and tendons that replace the action of the foot, Achilles tendon and calf muscle. Scientific research proves that BiOM normalizes level ground walking for lower-limb amputees by enabling them to walk at the same speed, and with the same metabolic energy, as their peers with intact biological limbs. "iWalk is committed to building a vast clinical distribution network that will provide amputees with the most advanced prosthetic technology in the world," said Timothy McCarthy, iWalk's president and CEO. "We are excited to be working with AALOS and their staff of advanced prosthetic professionals to deliver this innovative technology to their patients."
Brian Hicks is our first patient to receive the BiOM and has been all the way to China with his BiOM. He just competed in the ITU Para-triathlon World Championship where he represented the USA.
Team AALOS participated in the Alabama Workers' Compensation Organization's Spring Conference, May 5th-7th at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham. The conference theme this year was "Under the Big Top of Healthcare" where exhibitors were asked to design their booths around a circus theme.
Team AALOS chose Cirque de Soleil's LOVEshow which is inspired by Beatles music. Ring Master, Glenn Crumpton, along with Joey "Birthday Boy" Oliver and Lonnie "The Piano Man" Parsons dressed in Sgt. Pepper costumes Thursday night for the meet and greet reception.
Our team won "Best Booth" of the Conference for our Magical Mystery Tour of Love! We would like to thank all conference attendees for stopping by and participating with us.
