Montgomery Prosthetist Participates in Coast-To-Coast Bicycle Ride
On Saturday, Glenn Crumpton, a local prosthetist, joined three amputees who are currently riding from coast-to-coast on a journey they call Amputees Across America. The threesome is cycling from Seattle, WA to Jacksonville, FL. Crumpton will be a guest rider along the route from Little Rock, AR to Nashville, TN.
Crumpton, vice president of Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service, Inc. is currently in Memphis, TN where the group is visiting rehabilitation facilities to provide inspiration and education to other physically disabled people. Back in June, Keith Uuro, another of the company’s prosthetists joined the threesome as a guest rider from Salt Lake City, UT to Kit Carson, Colorado.
“This ride has certainly created a great deal of interest in what individuals with amputations can accomplish,” said Crumpton. “People have stopped these guys everywhere along their journey to find out more about what they are doing. And at the facilities they visit along the way, they’ve been such an inspiration to others who are physically challenged.”
The group will travel a total of over 4,500 miles along the route and are scheduled to visit 15 different rehabilitation facilities and 12 amputee support groups. Members of the group are also skydiving in several places along the route, to show that amputees can participate in a wide range of high-intensity activities.
The Amputees Across America is scheduled to arrive in Montgomery on Saturday morning, July 19th. The public is invited to a welcoming event that will be held at 10:00 that morning at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery located at 4465 Narrow Lane Road.
Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service, Inc. is one of the corporate sponsors of the Amputees Across America ride. The company is located at 1223 East South Boulevard in Montgomery, AL. Information may be obtained by calling (334) 284-0250 or toll-free, 1-800-457-4544.
