AAL&OS Showcases Latest Prosthetics Technology

Following the recent presentation of "The Walter Reed Experience", AAL&OS, Inc. has once again brought newly emerging technology to Central Arkansas. On April 5th, the company teamed up with Otto Bock to host the C-Leg Road Show at their Montgomery facility to allow some local lower-extremity amputees the chance to "test drive" this incredible microprocessor-controlled knee developed by engineers at Otto Bock.

Representatives from Otto Bock along with prosthetists from AAL&OS fitted and adjusted these computerized prosthetic devices on several individuals with above knee amputations. Once the fitting and adjustments were made, these amputees were given a chance to take the C-Leg through its paces in order to experience the difference it can make for their own quality of life. There was a variety of "obstacles" set-up on location to allow the wearers to see how the prosthesis operated in difficult situations such as descending stairs, walking on an incline, transversing uneven terrain, etc.

The C-Leg is the first and only leg prosthesis system worldwide with a fully microprocessor-controlled stance and swing phase. The prosthesis adjusts to the requirements of the wearer in real time and therefore ensures a level of dynamic response and security previously unattained. Perhaps the most impressive benefit is the knee's ability to permanently recognize which walking phase the wearer currently is in, and therefore adjusts itself accordingly in real time depending on the step speed, length, and frequency. With the C-Leg, the wearer achieves the best possible approximation of a natural gait pattern.

Through constant stance phase dampening, the C-Leg also offers a high level of security even if the user stumbles. Thanks to the low risk of falling, amputees can concentrate less on the prosthesis and more on the finer things in life. In addition, the amount of energy required for walking is significantly reduced.

AAL&OS (Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service, Inc.) is located at 1223 East South Boulevard in Montgomery with additional offices in Selma and Opelika. For more information, please visit the company's web-site at www.aalos.com.
