Rosemary sets a great example as a role model and inspiration to show others what is truly possible.
Rosemary began her relationship with life as an amputee suddenly. She was in an automobile accident that led to her amputation in 1999. Her life was dramatically changed from being an independent LPN to more than 10 years of unemployment and dependence on family members. In 2012 we at AALOS had the good fortune to meet Rosemary. Since that time, she has been nothing short of surprising. We learned that her desire to be normal and return to the life she enjoyed before the amputation had not disappeared. Her journey took quite a while from the accident in 1999.
Recently, Dan Smoker, her AALOS prosthetist, was seeing patients at a healthcare facility and was surprised to see Rosemary not as a patient, but also caring for patients and working at the facility as an LPN. The inspiring part of her story is that Rosemary fought back from the potential despair that can follow a life changing event such as a car accident and amputation. She has regained the quality of life and independence she experienced prior to the accident. She has transitioned from disability and unemployment to full-time employment. She is able to care for herself and live independently. Rosemary sets a great example as a role model and inspiration to show others what is truly possible.
